Idaho has taken a major step in reforming its teacher licensure system by approving the groundbreaking American Board certification exams. There are now two states that have formally accepted the American Board as a route to full certification, the other state being Pennsylvania. The American Board route, a nationally portable credential, promises to provide real assistance to rural states struggling to meet the highly qualified teacher requirement.
