It's Complicated: Update to Fairfax County teacher dismissal case

Yesterday, Washington Post journalist Emma Brown reported that Fairfax County Schools have decided to not pursue the firing of tenured teacher, Violet Nichols.  We opined on the many tangled issues with this case last month.  School officials dropped their push for her dismissal after a 21-member fact-finding panel weighed in and questioned the district's decision. School system spokesperson John Torre wrote in a statement "The decision to dismiss a teacher is a serious and time-consuming process, ...but under the process, the district should have the ability to enforce standards for good teaching.  We agree - shouldn't school districts have a say in who works for them?
