Alternative Certification Measure Passes in Texas

By an extremely narrow margin, the State Board of Education in Texas approved a measure last week that will permit college graduates to teach high school provided they can pass a licensure test and have a degree related to the subject they will teach. The measure leaves it up to the district's to decide the type and quantity of training to provide such teachers. "This is a sad day for children," melodramatically asserted State Board of Education member Alma Allen, D-Houston.
