Do states' policies support the expansion of the teacher pipeline?

Alternate routes into the teaching profession can be an effective means of bringing content-area experts, especially with STEM specialties, into our classrooms. When opening up alternate pathways into the teaching profession, states need to ensure that they are flexible, open to all grades and subjects, have high standards for entry, and provide new teachers with targeted supports. Licensure reciprocity across states can be a powerful lever for expanding the teacher pipeline as well.
