SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A new report shows 99-percent of teachers in Springfield were given 'satisfactory' ratings during their evaluations.
The findings of the report by the National Council on Teacher Quality were released Tuesday morning during a meeting with school officials and business leaders in Springfield.
Business owners in the city hope to improve the graduation rate and narrow the achievement gap to help boost the economy.
"As business owners, we'd like to see the best students possible come out of the school system, " said John Davis, a member of Springfield Business Leaders for Education.
The report highlights some of the main problems within the school system including a long hiring process, teacher evaluations, teacher tenure, and sick time.
The Council recommends several ways to solve these problems and attract and retain good teachers.
The National Council on Teacher Quality has made the complete report available for the public.
